Hi, I'm KDeveloper!

also known as Amirkhan Zholaman
also this portfolio is still under construction.

About me:

I'm a 17 year old generalist game developer / composer from Kazakhstan. I like all sorts of games, but especially those that reinvent the wheel with deep new mechanics or unorthodox genre-mixes. I also dabble in a lot of things and have experience with such tools as:

My story, if you're interested

My parents didn't spare me a lot of attention, so I was mostly raised by the internet (a horrible fate for a child). Being a small boy, I was the prime audience for gaming content, especially involving titles like "Undertale" or "Five Nights at Freddy's" and other indie games with large communities. Of course, as a kid, I fell in love with the concept of games. Much like how in the past people viewed books as a retreat to somewhere otherworldly, so did I view games as a look into different worlds. This then led to me wanting to make games myself.

I started doing game development when I was 11 (in July 2020) when I had free time and figured there's no reason not to start early.

To put it frankly, doing gamedev has changed my life. There are so many other activities I've dabbled in and discovered to be fun thanks to gamedev. Of those I am most confident with gameplay design and music composing but I am not limited to doing just that. On top of that, game development has, directly or not, led to me meeting many wonderful people and has even shaped a lot of my core values.

So really game development is my life, and that's putting it lightly.

Notable Game Jam Submissions

THE P.Y.R.A.M.I.D. PROJECT

Made for the GoedWare Game Jam #16 in 10 days. Theme was "You Can't Save Them All"
A team project to get used to a newly made team. I mostly did side tasks like bug-fixes and polishing.
In this game you fly around a planet on a UFO saucer and tractor beam animals with the goal of saving at least 2 of every animal.
However, when you tractor beam animals, you are then required to lay them out on a grid, accounting for their shapes and behavior
You are given a time limit and a limited amount of safety pods to send animals away from the exploding planet.

DEEP TROUBLE

Made for the Brackeys Game Jam 2023.2 in 2 weeks. The theme was "Diving Deeper".
This was the first game jam I've participated in and I participated with a few friends
I did all of the coding, placeholder art, level design, mechanics design, and wrote all but one of the songs in the game.
The game is a physics-based puzzle platformer revolving around gravity-altering zones.
You are a worker for a space cargo-delivery company and are tasked with finding out what happened to one of the company's lost delivery spaceships

FLUCTUS

Made for the Portfolio Builders Jam - Week #21 in roughly a week.
I did this jam solo but I did include the cover image for one of my songs that was drawn by a friend of mine. They're credited in the game page description.
It's a rhythm game where you have to switch between different "waves" (Sine, Square, Saw waves) to be able to hit notes.

LOOPHOLE

Made for the GMTK Game Jam 2025 in about 2 days (the time limit was 4 days but due to timezones and other complications I couldn't use all the time available)
The theme was "Loop", so I made a pretty simple short game about a time loop. I worked on this completely solo.
It's one of those games where you must die to progress and you unlock basic game mechanics like walking left or jumping as you play.

Untitled Prototype #1

This prototype was being worked on with two goals in mind:
  1. Encourage an artist friend of mine who doesn't make original characters often by making a game about two of their characters
  2. Work on a game with a team of at least 3-4 people
The prototype didn't make it far but it had some cool ideas in it and it let me practice the art of procedural animation more.
The idea was that there would be two gameplay loops based on which character you play as in a level.
The first character would have an action-platformer kind of focus and they would use a mechanical claw to swing themselves around and fight enemies.
The second character would have a more stealth/puzzle gameplay loop, with the option of ignoring either mechanic and facing a more difficult action encounter instead.

Untitled Horror Roguelike Prototype

A game idea inspired by Lobotomy Corporation and the FNaF series' traditional "defend the office" gameplay loop.
The idea was that you would need to defend against monsters in your house while progressing some other task (initial idea was maybe preparing a ritual in the basement)
When said task is completed, that level would end and you would be offered a selection of monsters to add to the next level which you would need to defend from on top of
every enemy you've had to ward off in the previous levels. You would be able to walk around the house in a point-and-click fashion, and interact with the monsters similarly.

Untitled Tower Defense Roguelike Prototype

Okay yeah I might be a bit obsessed with taking genres and making them roguelike.
In this game, you would start with a few specific towers that you're able to purchase and place a limited amount of times.
And every round (or maybe every few rounds) you would be given a selection of towers to add that you would then be able to buy.
I was planning to have multiple characters with different pools of towers. The first character I had in mind would have towers based on chess pieces.

Music

Here's a portfolio album, showcasing different songs I'm proud of. I have a decently diverse range, but mostly focus on synth-y sounds,
since emulating real instruments with digital plugins is quite hard to get right and I don't have the means to record real instruments very well.
Though, I do have a MIDI keyboard and I am trying to figure out how to properly record me playing guitar with what I have available.

Mods

More Frost Mod (Wildfrost)

Wildfrost is a roguelike deckbuilder with auto-battler elements made by Deadpan Games in collaboration with Gaziter and published by Chucklefish.
This mod was a solo project made out of the love for the game. Some ideas were taken from the community (with the original author's consent and credit).
Intended to provide a vanilla-like experience and expand upon some lesser defined archetypes in the game.

Snowfall(Wildfrost)

Snowfall is a big expansion where you play as the enemies - beasts empowered by the frost.
There's a whole team behind this mod.
I was a collaborator for a while and mostly participated in design discussions and coding and helped a little with one song from the soundtrack.

Other

Beta testing / QA experience

Being a solo dev, I'm pretty good at debugging, and that combined with my love for playing games makes me a pretty good beta-tester.
I've been personally invited for the closed beta test of Wildfrost's 1.2 content update.
I am currently participating in the closed beta testing for Necrosis Party by Shortcake Cafe
I've participated in the open beta testing for games such as StarVaders by Pengonauts, Cursed Words by Buried Things, and Demon Bluff by UmiArt.
I also play my fair share of early access games and tend to provide feedback if I'm interested enough
I've also participated in the semi-closed beta testing for StarVaders and its spinoff DiceVaders.

CAVA-powered audio visualizer

CAVA is an open-source cross-platform audio visualizer. Normally it runs in the command terminal and renders everything there. But it also has an option to print out raw data that can be fed into other software.
So, I used this to feed the bar length to Godot and now I can customize the way it looks however I like. I haven't had time to use this for much yet, But I'm planning to post a lot of my songs on youtube using this.
